The legacy of Contacting The World!

                         What a year!

                                              chembe talks to the kids

  • 1 organisational restructuring!
  • 16 young people travelling to Europe
  • 3 camps
  • 28 fundraising events
  • 36 storytelling performances
  • 1 new Barefeet baby
  • 8 international volunteers
  • 2,000 children attended our Christmas show!
  • 5 new partner organisations
  • 0 funerals
  • 1,500 children celebrating the Shine festival!

One of the most touching moments was the legacy of Contacting the World. It was the most amazing festival and has opened so many doors for Barefeet and boosted the confidence of the entire Barefeet network!  All the efforts, trials (and missed flights!), were worth it.  Chembe (one of the team who travelled) came in to see the Christmas show whilst all the children from the streets were watching. He took to the stage and spoke to the children about his experiences. He told them about the problems he himself faced before becoming involved with the team. He encouraged them to learn from him, because he used to be where the kids are now. He told them of the importance of helping yourself, never giving up and allowing yourself to dream! This young man is an example to all. Having now toured Europe with Barefeet, he was the perfect person to talk to the children. His achievements were greeted with rapturous applause.   Who remembers about passports, visas, fundraising and missed flights when your ears are deafened with the applause of young people inspired by the legacy of Contacting The World and Barefeet? Certainly not me!
