Children from the street are dazzled by Edward
Over 2,000 children from Lusaka came to see the Christmas show
Thanks to RAPIDS and Zambian Breweries we were able to bring to the show many of the children we work with. Throughout the week children from our centres and children staying on the streets were given a Christmas spectacle. After the show Father Christmas was available to give some presents to the children.
Many of the children who came had never been into a theatre. It was a beautiful experience to watch their amazed faces. The story of Edward is particularly poignant. He is an outsider who doesn’t fit in, who has been rejected by society for being different. A lot of our kids could identify with Edward’s treatment and his journey.
For many of the kids who came it was another theatre experience from which we are creating an army of young artists in Zambia.
Particular note must go to Creative Kids International. They were in charge of the complete design of the show and we are eternally grateful.
To top off the experience BBC World did a feature on the childrens reaction to the piece (which aired on 14th December). The children were asked to comment and explain what they thought about the piece. It was one of the most special Barefeet projects to date.
Merry Christmas from all at Barefeet!
